André CHIENG
Chairman and CEO of the Asian European Commerce (AEC) and Vice Chairman of the France-China Committee
André CHIENG, born in Marseille in 1953 in a Chinese family, receives a ‘Chinese’ education at home and ‘French’ education at school.
Initially interested in Classic Humanities, he ends up studying Mathematics and Science, and enters the Ecole Polytechnique of Paris. After graduating, he is interested by Economics, which he studies at the Ecole Nationale de la Statistique et de l’Administration Economique and at Institut d’Etudes Politiques of Paris.
In 1978, he decides to stay in China for two years, where he teaches Economics at the university. He returns to France in 1980 and joins the Louis Dreyfus Group which appoints him General Manager of Brambilla Company - one of the oldest French trading firms specialized in commercial exchanges with China. He becomes Chairman and CEO of this company, renamed A.E.C. in 1988, with an activity including consulting. Since 2001, he has been living in Beijing.
André Chieng’s expertise consists in helping western and Chinese companies reaching agreements after having analyzed and solved problems that may be obstacles, whether they are political, administrative or cultural.
Currently Vice-President of the France China Committee, André Chieng is Member of Honor of the Chinese Council for the Promotion of International Trade and Conseiller du Commerce Extérieur de la France.
In 1987, he co-authors Les Nouvelles Routes de la Soie, published by Economica. In 2006, André Chieng publishes La pratique de la Chine, en compagnie de François Jullien with Grasset Editions. In 2009, he receives the prize of 6th China’s Top Ten Economic Talents. In 2010, he co-signs Les 100 mots de la Chine, with Jean-Paul Betbèze. Andre Chieng is Chevalier of the Legion d’Honneur.
